'I want to leave Spurs NOW': Ajax and Everton target Bergwijn desperate to leave

Dutch international Steven Bergwijn has declared he wants 'to leave Spurs now', ahead of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham rejected a £17million bid from Ajax for the winger earlier this week but the Netherlands forward has made his intentions to leave north London clear.

After netting the opener in Holland's 4-1 win over Belgium on Friday evening, Bergwijn opened up on how he hasn't been 'allowed to leave Spurs'.

Speaking to AD, Bergwijn admitted: 'I just need to go play. I want to leave Spurs now, that's for sure.

'Is it important that my new club plays in the Champions League? That's not my top priority. It would be nice, but what's important is that I'm going to play.'

'I wasn't allowed to leave Spurs in the winter and then I didn't have any problems. But for the last few months, I was hardly looked after there.

'I want to go and play somewhere weekly. It would be nice if there was clarity soon. My situation now has to be different.'

The Spurs winger has drawn interest from both Everton and Ajax, with the Dutch champions having a £17m bid rejected this week.

After the win against Belgium, Holland manager Louis van Gaal said that Spurs don’t give Bergwijn 'enough playing minutes' and that they should let the Dutch international join Ajax.

van Gaal said: 'I want him (Bergwijn) to go to Ajax as soon as possible. Tottenham don’t give him enough playing minutes and that is unbelievable when you see his qualities.

The Tottenham No. 23 has shone on international duty for van Gaal's side recently  - scoring twice against Denmark and netting in the draw with Germany before their recent 4-1 thumping of rivals Belgium.

Despite this, Bergwijn only started four Premier League matches in 2021-22 - three of which came under previous boss Nuno Espirito Santo in August.
