Anthony Martial did not arrive with the Manchester United squad at The Lowry Hotel ahead of their trip to Everton on Sunday.
Martial failed a fitness test before the 5-0 Europa League thrashing of Club Brugge on Thursday due to an apparent thigh injury and Odion Ighalo is set to make his first Premier League start for United at Goodison Park. Ighalo last started a Premier League game on New Year's Day in 2017.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggested Martial would have a scan on Friday to determine whether he would be available to travel to Merseyside. United are away at Derby County in the FA Cup fifth round on Thursday before the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on March 8.
"Odion has definitely shown what type of striker he is," Solskjaer said. "He's ready for that game on Sunday. I don't know about Anthony, to be honest. I've not asked. He tried this morning, so he wasn't that bad but we'll have to do a scan tomorrow probably."
