Former Inter midfielder and current Red Star Belgrade coach Dejan Stankovic discussed the current situation in Italy and the Coronavirus emergency when speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference earlier today. His words were noted by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.
“I know what is happening in Italy. My wife and son are there and they are in semi-quarantine, they are taking it very seriously. Milan is literally an empty city.”
Stankovic's 18-year-old son Filip is part of the Inter Primavera squad. The young goalkeeper has made 18 appearances across all competitions so far this season for the Primavera side, keeping eight clean sheets and conceding 20 goals. He was part of the Inter squad when Inter captain Samir Handanovic was injured with a hairline fracture to his left little finger, although he didn't make a single first team appearance.
The Red Star Belgrade coach spent nine years with the Nerazzurri between 2004 to 2013. In that time, he made 326 appearances across all competitions, scoring 42 goals and providing 50 assists. He was a core part of the Treble winning side, making 43 appearances across all competitions that season under then-coach Jose Mourinho.
