All the latest regarding Gabriel Jesus' rehabilitation process following his knee injury as Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta awaits the return of his star striker

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus is currently sidelined due to a knee injury.

The Brazilian international missed the best part of four months last season after sustaining medial ligament damage during a World Cup group stage fixture against Cameroon in 2022. Jesus then returned to action during the final part of the 2022/23 campaign and had started the Gunners' pre-season in fine form before needing to undergo a minor procedure on the very same knee that was previously injured.

So, football.london has rounded up everything we know about Jesus' injury below as Mikel Arteta eagerly awaits for the return of the 26-year-old.

Sunday update

After Arsenal's 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest, Jesus was spotted walking without a limp through the mixed zone with big progress made in his recovery since the Community Shield.

In a post on Instagram, the player then provided a positive update regarding his rehabilitation process. The 26-year-old posted a video of himself in the gym, showing off his surgery dressing with the message: "Done *tick emoji* *muscle emoji*."

Before forest

Arteta was quizzed on the former City frontman's status ahead of Saturday's victory with Forest, admitting that the player is progressing very well. "It’s a bit early still," the Spaniard said on his starting striker.

"Less than two weeks since the operation. Hopefully he can start to do some stuff next week.

Community Shield update

Jesus then missed Arsenal's Community Shield clash against Manchester City at Wembley and the talented centre-forward delivered a brief update on his current status.

When asked by football.london how his recovery was progressing after game against City, the Brazilian replied: "Good, good."

Injury confirmation

Arsenal boss Arteta confirmed that Jesus had undergone a minor operation on a knee issue that saw him miss the Emirates Cup clash against AS Monaco earlier this month.

Prior to the game against the Ligue 1 side, the Gunners confirmed that the Brazilian frontman was to be assessed on a knee issue with Arteta then providing more clarity on his status. "Unfortunately he had a little procedure this morning," Arteta said when asked about Jesus.

"He’s had some discomfort in his knee that caused him some issues so they had to go in. He’s going to be out for a few weeks."

The Spaniard added: "It is a big blow because we had him back to his best, especially with the way he played against Barcelona and he was in good condition but unfortunately we lost him. We had to look at it and we had to make a decision and the best one is to protect the player and get him back as quick as possible. We decided to do it.

"It’s something related to the previous injury he had and the surgery. He had some irritation in the knee and we had to get it resolved."
