Juventus president Andrea Agnelli has confirmed that Massimiliano Allegri will remain as the club's manager despite the team slipping to a 2-0 defeat against Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The Italian giants have now lost three of their four group matches, leaving them on the brink of elimination from Europe's top club competition, but Agnelli has vowed to stand by Allegri.
'Massimiliano Allegri is our head coach and he will stay,' Agnelli told Sky Italia after Tuesday's defeat.
'I feel ashamed and angry… so in this kind of situation you can’t blame one single person, it’s the whole group.'
Allegri has also insisted that he fully intends to stay in the dugout, declaring that he is relishing the challenge of getting his team out of their current slump.
'I’m not going to step down, absolutely — because it’s a challenge now. When it gets harder, it’s even more beautiful,' he said in his post-match interview with Sky Italia.
Juventus fell behind in the seventh minute thanks to an Omer Atzili goal, and Atzili then doubled his side's advantage three minutes before half time.
The Serie A club failed to get back into the game after the break, leaving them on just three points from their four games, joint-bottom with Maccabi Haifa.
They are now five points behind PSG and Benfica, and must win both of their remaining matches against the top two to have any chance of progressing out of their group.
Juventus have also made a poor start to their domestic campaign, winning just three of their opening nine league games.
They were beaten 2-0 by AC Milan on Saturday, and find themselves 10 points behind leaders Napoli, but Allegri is still clinging onto his job for now.
