Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side are looking to go down in history by winning the club's first ever Premier League title in May.
But the German manager's Reds have already entered the record books by making the best start to an English league season ever.
Liverpool have eclipsed Pep Guardiola's champions of last season after 16 games as they push for their first title in 30 years.
The Merseyside club have been sensational this season hitting 46 points after 15 wins, one draw and no defeats in the English top flight.
Their incredible form has opened up an eight-point gap to Leicester in second and a 14-point lead over third-placed Manchester City.
Liverpool narrowly missed out by one point to the Premier League title last season but the fact that they have made the best ever start to an English league campaign bodes well.
The Reds have beaten Chelsea's title-winning side of 2005-06 by three points after the Blues under Jose Mourinho suffered one defeat in their opening 16 matches.
Klopp's side have also pipped Guardiola's City side of last campaign, who had put 41 points on the board at the same stage of the season.
During the 1985-86 campaign Manchester United had also recorded 41 points as well as the Red Devils side of 2006-07.
The only team not to have gone on to win the title after hitting 38 points or more after 16 games was the United side of 1985-86.
Liverpool's 1987-88 and 1978-79 title winners were victorious after achieving 40 and 39 points respectively while Leeds also lifted the title at the end of the 1973-74 season after reaching 40 points after 16 games.
United's side of 2000-01 racked up 39 points after 16 games and went on to glory while Arsenal's sides of 1990-91 and 1947-48 put 38 points on the board following 16 matches and went on to life the title.
Liverpool last won the league title back in the 1989-90 season, before the Premier League was introduced in 1992.
But the fact that nine sides out of the top 11 went on to win the title after recording less points after 16 games is a boost for Klopp's side.
Having 46 points after 16 games is a remarkable feat but if Liverpool don't go on to lift the Premier League title next year it will count for nothing.
