Manchester City players were back in business on Wednesday morning as they hit the gym as part of a long day of training at their Etihad Campus headquarters.

Benjamin Mendy looked typically enthusiastic as he completed the strength and conditioning workout alongside his team-mates ahead of their weekend league match against Huddersfield.

England internationals Kyle Walker and Raheem Sterling were also pictured in City's state-of-the-art gym, which preceded an afternoon session out on the luscious green training pitches.

There was also an appearance from new arrival Riyad Mahrez, who will be looking to build on his impressive Premier League debut against Arsenal in this weekend's visit of the Terriers.

They will be looking to build on their opening day victory over the Gunners and maintain a 100 per cent record in their bid to match what represented a record-breaking campaign last term.

Kevin De Bruyne was also pictured completing weighted squats, but it may be his last training session with the team for a while as it is understood he suffered a knee injury on Wednesday afternoon.

Sportsmail understands De Bruyne is suspected to have torn a lateral ligament in his knee which could rule him out for up to three months.

The 27-year-old will undergo further tests to examine the extent of the damage but the news comes as a bitter pill for Guardiola just as their Premier League title defence gets underway.

De Bruyne came off the bench during the second-half of their 2-0 win over Arsenal as he edged his way back to full fitness following an extended World Cup campaign with Belgium.

City's performance without him will lend encouragement to Guardiola, who has a number of options to choose from with regards to replacing De Bruyne.

Bernardo Silva, David Silva, Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan all have the ability to operate further forward in their midfield three.
