Luis Enrique’s recent managerial theme of substituting Kylian Mbappé (25) early in Ligue 1 games continued in Le Classique. The forward was left visibility disappointed when his evening ended early and Gonçalo Ramos replaced him around the hour mark.
Mbappé left the pitch and went straight down the tunnel after his substitution in a sign of his frustration at his current status at the club, and following the game the forward released a cryptic Instagram post; an image of his walk off the pitch.
There was no caption to the post, only an image of him turned away, the captain’s armband in his hands, and the torrential rain pouring down on him. A picture that some think to be a last and disappointed goodbye to France’s most famous fixture.
It will likely be Mbappé’s last ever derby game against Olympique de Marseille with the striker having already confirmed his intention to leave at the end of the season, and while there has been no official confirmation of where he will end up, it feels almost certain that he will be playing for Real Madrid next year.
