LaLiga market values: Yamal doubles in value, Bellingham helps Real Madrid hit €1b mark

"He is an incredible footballer. He was born to play in Madrid and shape an era at the biggest club in the world," declared Vinicius Jr about team mate Jude Bellingham's strong start at Real Madrid. With ten goals in ten games, the England international has undoubtedly lived up to the glowing endorsement and has now been rewarded with the biggest increase in the latest Transfermarkt LaLiga market value update. The former Borussia Dortmund star has now climbed to the top and is now on a par with his impressed team-mate.

Indeed, Bellingham’s market value has now risen by €30 million to an impressive €150m, putting him level with the most expensive midfielders ever. The new Madrid signing has now reached a height only matched by Kevin De Bruyne and Philippe Coutinho, who were both worth as much in 2018. The midfielder’s increase, alongside €5m increase for Eduardo Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni now means that Madrid’s overall squad market value stands at €1 billion - the first time the Spanish side have been able to boast such a value since September 2020.

The €35m increase in squad market value now means that Madrid have the fourth most valuable squad in world football, overtaking Chelsea and placing them just behind Paris Saint-Germain. However, such a feat has been overshadowed by the capital side’s historic rivals Barcelona, whose squad rose in market value by an even more impressive €47.7m to €862m in the market value update. This was largely down to a huge increase in value for young star Lamine Yamal. Not only did the winger become the youngest LaLiga goalscorer in history this season, but his market value has also now doubled to €50m. Never has a player under the age of 17 been worth more.

De Jong reaches old heights with Barcelona

In addition to Ferran Torres (+€5m) and young prospect Fermín López (+€7.7m), Frenkie de Jong was another Barcelona star that enjoyed a big increase in market value in this most recent update. The Dutch international saw an impressive €15m be added to his market value, taking the midfielder back to €90m for the third time in four years. "For the past 12 months, de Jong's form has been consistently impressive,” explains Tobias Blaseio, Area Manager Transfermarkt Spain. “He has reached a new level of esteem at the club and among the fans. Now we should see more success at international level.”

The biggest winners of the update also include Real Sociedad's Takefusa Kubo (+€25m), who at €50m is now the most valuable Japanese player in history alongside Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma, and Valencia talent Javi Guerra (+€18m). Both have played a major role in increasing the value of their clubs' squads by just over €30m each.

Iglesias and Lemar drop in value as biggest losers

The biggest loser of the update is Borja Iglesias, who made his debut for Spain just a year ago and scored 15 goals for Real Betis last season. "The striker is now only third choice at Betis,” confirmed Blaseio about the player’s market value halving to €10m. “In his short period of time, he has hardly been able to provide evidence for a place in the team, so that no improvement is to be expected here for the time being. In terms of his performance, he has also left the extended circle of the national team for the time being, so that the clear loss of status at all levels is also reflected in his new market value."

Thomas Lemar of Atlético Madrid, who has been out for a long time with a ruptured Achilles tendon, has also seen his market value drop from €22m to €15m. Ben Brereton Díaz, who has not yet been able to establish himself as a newcomer at Villarreal, follows in the ranking and is downgraded by €6m to €10m. The Europa League side are also the biggest losers in terms of squad value after a weak start to the season with a drop of €23.5m. They are joined by Osasuna (-€20.7m) and Sevilla (-€22.9m), two other European representatives with similar starting problems. In the case of the latter, returnee Sergio Ramos has not yet been able to bring any stability with his experience, which has resulted in a minus of €4.5m to €4m for him personally
