Liverpool's U23 manager Neil Critchley has suggested some of the kids who feature against Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday could fly straight out to Qatar to help the first team squad in the Club World Cup.
The Reds are having to field two different sides due to a fixture pile-up with an academy side taking on Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday and the first team in action in Qatar on Wednesday.
But Critchley, who will take charge of the game in Birmingham, believes 'one or two' may head straight for Qatar to help Jurgen Klopp and the rest of the first team.
'I believe there might be a plane waiting for one or two,' Critchley said on Monday.
'It might depend on how they play tomorrow. I'm hoping to sneak on myself.'
Harvey Elliott and Rhian Brewster, who both have experience around the first team squad, will be available for the game against Villa.
But they could be the two players Critchley has hinted could then face a short turnaround in a bid to join up with the first team squad in Qatar ahead of their match on Wednesday evening.
Critchley is already without Curtis Jones and Neco Williams with Klopp including the young pair in his initial travelling squad for the Club World Cup.
For the U23 boss, seeing Jones and Williams form part of Klopp's group is a real positive.
'For two 18 year olds to be playing in a World Championship, that doesn't happen very often,' he said.
'You've only got to count names to show that they've got a chance of being involved and maybe being on the bench.
'As the manager showed with bringing Curtis on against Bournemouth they've got a chance of being on the pitch and fingers crossed they do.'
