Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing 17-year-old prospect Andrija Maksmiovic from Red Star Belgrade.

Maksimovic made his senior international debut for Serbia earlier this month, coming off the bench in their 2-0 win over Switzerland in the Nations League. In the process, he became the second-youngest debutant in Serbia's history behind Andrija Zivkovic, who was only one month younger than Maksimovic when he came off the bench against Japan in 2003.

The midfielder has impressed for Red Star Belgrade, having made 11 appearances for the club so far this season which includes a start against Inter Milan in the Champions League. According to Sky Sports Germany, Liverpool are one of several clubs interested in the teenager.

It is claimed that Liverpool, Manchester City, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund are all monitoring his progress. Maksimovic is currently under contract until 2027 and it is claimed it would take a fee of at least €15million (£12.5m) to persuade Red Star Belgrade to sell.

Liverpool were the least active of all 20 Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window, making just the one new signing as Italy international Federico Chiesa joined from Juventus for a cut-price fee.

A deal for goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili was also confirmed, but he will not officially join Liverpool from Valencia until next summer. And new Liverpool boss Arne Slot readily admitted that the club only wanted to sign players who would improve the team.

Speaking during pre-season, the Dutchman explained: "The bar is really high for new signings because we have so many good players so it is not so easy to first find a player to meet those standards and then is he available?

"Then we have to find an agreement with them, so it is not always easy to find a player who can help us but Richard [Hughes, sporting director] is working hard on it and let's see what comes from this."

However, Liverpool have been active in signing talented teenagers in recent years, with youngsters like Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak and Kaide Gordon all getting first-team opportunities last season after being signed from other clubs.
