It was a final day of dramatic twists and turns, with Manchester City stormed back from two goals down to win the Premier League title and Liverpool agonisingly missing out.
There wasn't a single point during the afternoon when Liverpool actually moved ahead of City in the table but for long spells a goal either at Anfield or the Etihad Stadium would have done it.
That was certainly the case when City were trailing Aston Villa 2-0 and Liverpool knew if they took the lead against Wolves, they would be champions.
And even after City scored three times in a five-minute spell to turn things around, a Villa equaliser would have handed Liverpool the title.
In the 85th minute at Anfield, it appears somebody started a false rumour that Steven Gerrard's side had indeed made it 3-3 and the Reds were bound for glory.
It was captured on the Sky Sports coverage and came just after Mohamed Salah had put Liverpool ahead.
Cheering started in the stands and close-up shots of the crowd showed fans hugging, clapping and celebrating as they believed Villa had scored.
It was even picked up on the commentary with Rob Hawthorne saying: 'A cheer going around though we know not why because Manchester City, to our knowledge, are still leading by three goals to two.
'I'm not sure if a false rumour has spread around here like wildfire.'
It seems even Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp picked up on it as he embraced Thiago Alcantara on the touchline, although that could have been sympathy for the injury that forced him off the field.
On the Liverpool subs bench, however, we can see Takumi Minamino, clearly better informed about the City score, urging everyone to calm down.
Virgil van Dijk, sat just along from him, looks thoroughly unimpressed at the premature celebrations.
In the end, although Liverpool won their game 3-1, City held out to beat Villa 3-2 and clinch a fourth Premier League title in five seasons.
It came just seconds after Salah thought he'd scored the goal to win Liverpool the league title, only for a fan in the crowd to inform him that City were 3-2 up.
As the Liverpool players celebrated on the touchline, the fan held up fingers to indicate the latest City score, causing the celebrations to die down.
