Georginio Wijnaldum 'is still waiting for contract talks to begin' as the midfielder enters the final 12 months of his current deal at Liverpool.

The 29-year-old is keen to extend his stay at Anfield even through he reportedly is seeking assurances he would continue to be a key player.

But the Holland international's representatives are waiting to hear from the Reds, according to Sky Sports.

Wijnaldum has won the Premier League and the Champions League at Anfield after joining for £25m and there is no reason he cannot keep winning more trophies with Klopp's current side.

Wijnaldum joined Liverpool from Newcastle in 2016, and has since gone on to be a regular first-team player.

The Dutchman has played 177 games for the Reds, scoring 18 goals and providing 16 assists. Perhaps his most notable contribution was scoring twice in two minutes against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final last year to help Liverpool reach the final.

He will be heading into the last year of his current contract at Anfield, and Liverpool will not want to lose him on a free transfer at the end of next season.
