Liverpool's Harvey Elliott has stepped up his recovery from his serious injury

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is continuing to make positive progress in his recovery from a dislocated ankle as he carried out some individual training drills on Monday, according to reports.

After spending last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, Elliott remained at Anfield over the summer and started to establish himself in the first-team in the opening weeks of the campaign.

He made three consecutive league starts for Jurgen Klopp's men in August and September, before he was dealt a terrible slice of luck when he dislocated his ankle after a challenge with Leeds' Pascal Struijk at Elland Road.

It seemed that his season may be over, but he has made a remarkable recovery from the significant setback.

Just three months on from undergoing surgery, he is back on the training pitch and working away from the main squad, as reported by Liverpool's official website.

The 18-year-old completed a number of running drills, and did some work with the ball as he eases his way back towards full fitness.

Klopp has previously claimed that the club will take their time with Elliott's rehabilitation.

Speaking last month, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo, he said: 'At the moment, and I hope I don't eat my words, but I cannot see a scenario where we would think about rushing him back.

'He is our long-term prospect and each day we can get him back earlier is great but we will not rush that.'

However, this latest update suggests that a return to the fold for Elliott may not be too far away.

Liverpool are due to be without Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane next month, with the duo set to play in the Africa Cup of Nations for Egypt and Senegal, respectively.

Therefore, having Elliott as an option in early 2022 would be a major boost for the Reds, who are aiming to win their second league title in the last three seasons.
