Liverpool's throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark signs new contract for next season

Liverpool's throw-in coach, Thomas Gronnemark, has revealed he's signed a new contract with the club for next season.

Gronnemark started working with Liverpool in August 2018 after convincing Jurgen Klopp his throw-in routines could offer another attacking weapon.

Eyebrows were raised by some pundits, including Andy Gray, who questioned the need for a specialist throw-in coach.

But his work is highly valued by Klopp and has helped to improve the Reds' ball retention from throw-in situations.

Gronnemark, who is the record holder for the world's longest throw-in at 51.33m, has spent 15 years focusing on dead-ball situations.

He works with the Merseyside outfit on a part-time basis as he also offers his expertise in the Danish Superliga at FC Midtjylland.

Gronnemark previously admitted to German newspaper, Kicker, that he was open to the idea of working for another Premier League club.

He later clarified his comments by explaining that he was a freelancer who wasn't tied down to a binding contract with any team, but stated he couldn't work with a rival in the same season.

Gronnemark again hinted he would like to work for other clubs on Twitter as he announced the signing of his new contract.

He tweeted: ''I'm happy and proud to announce that I have signed a new contract with Liverpool FC for the 20/21 season

I'm a freelance throw-in coach, and there is great interest from other clubs at the moment. Looking forward to help more teams with 'The Long, Fast and Clever Throw-in.'

In November 2018, Gronnemark hailed Joe Gomez after his long throw-in provided the assist for Jesse Lingard to score for England against Croatia.

'What makes him a good thrower, he had learned most of the things I wanted to teach him about technique very seriously, he's taken the training seriously,' Gronnemark told Mundial.

'You know, you can say that he has good technique now, but we are still trying to improve him even more, he's a good player, he has some fast muscles when he's running against strikers, he's very fast but also very flexible.

'With Joe, it's good technique but also a good physique. He can throw very hard but he can also throw far, it's very difficult to defend against because he can throw very dangerously to the far post.'
