MUTV commentator Ben Thornley delivered a scathing assessment of Arsenal's summer signing Kai Havertz as Manchester United picked up a 2-0 win against the Gunners in New York on Saturday.
Havertz started in a three-man midfield alongside Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice following his £65m summer move from Chelsea last month.
But Mikel Arteta's men struggled in the first half as goals from Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho handed United a two-goal lead.
As the players returned for the second half, Havertz remained on the pitch, but was slammed by Thornley just minutes after the interval.
Commentating on the game for MUTV, Thornley was asked what he would do if he was in the Arsenal dugout, and responded: 'Well, I'd have just taken Kai Havertz off 'cause he's rubbish!'
His co-commentator Stewart Gardner proceeded to ask: 'What have you got against Kai Havertz?' with Thornley insisting 'I haven't got anything against him'.
Thornley came through United's ranks as a player in the early 1990s alongside the club's "Class of 92" which included club legends David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Gary and Phil Neville.
However, he made just nine senior appearance for the Red Devils, before leaving the club permanently to join Huddersfield in 1998. He went on to call time on his playing career in 2010.
Havertz has divided opinion since arriving in England to sign for Chelsea in 2020. He netted the winning goal in the final as the Blues won the Champions League in his maiden campaign, but then struggled to find his best form in the following two seasons.
Arteta clearly saw something special in Havertz, though, and Arsenal made their move this summer, luring him away from Stamford Bridge.
The 24-year-old has had a mixed start to his time at the north London club, and was mocked online after failing to score any of his 14 shots in the MLS All-Star Skills cross-and-volley challenge earlier this week, becoming the first player ever to not find the net.
However, he later scored his first goal for Arsenal in their 5-0 friendly win over an All-Stars XI, with Havertz hitting back at his critics on social media for his performance in the shooting challenge 24 hours earlier.
But he delivered a below-par display against United, leading to Thornley's brutal criticism of him.
