Riyad Mahrez has left football fans in stitches for his brutal explanation to wife, Taylor Ward, after she emotionally questioned why they were leaving England for Saudi Arabia last year.
The Algerian called time on his career in English football last season in favour of a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli where he signed off on a £73m-a-year contract.
Mahrez starred for Man City during five seasons with the club that culminated in the 32-year-old helping Pep Guardiola's side win the Treble last season and end their wait for a first Champions League crown.
Mahrez and his wife, Taylor - daughter of former Premier League player Ashley Ward - are part of an upcoming docuseries that delves deeper into the lives of the partners of players in the English top-flight.
The series titled 'Married to the Game' airs on February 23 and a short snippet has gone viral as Mahrez bluntly explains why they are leaving England for the Middle East.
The former Leicester star departed England following a hugely successful trophy-laden stint in the nation that began with him playing an integral part in the Foxes' shock Premier League crown.
He then went on join City and married Taylor in 2022 during the time that he was a key feature in Man City's ambitious title-chasing squad.
An extract from the upcoming series shows a crying Taylor getting emotional as she reveals her feelings upon being told they would be moving to Saudi Arabia.
She starts by explaining: 'Riyad rung me and basically told me 'we're moving to Saudi'.'
While sat across the table from the global football star, Taylor continues: 'I'm going to be sat here at home on my own.'
Mahrez comedically responds 'It's part of the game innit' and his slang-term response quickly captured the attention of online football supporters.
One fan sarcastically quipped: 'motivational from Riyad Mahrez', while another added: 'Mahrez i wasn’t familiar with your game.'
Another similar online response to the clip said: 'you just have to respect the game.'
Other notable individuals that will feature in the upcoming show include the partners of Mahrez's former Man City team-mate Ilkay Gundogan and Everton defender James Tarkowski.
