Manchester United have suffered another injury setback, after it emerged Casemiro asked to come off in Brazil's World Cup qualifier against Venezuela with an ankle issue.
The Red Devils have launched an investigation into the high number of players absent with knocks, but the problem might have been exacerbated in South America.
Casemiro, the Brazil captain, asked to be withdrawn after 79 minutes of Thursday's game against Venezuela, and he was replaced by Andre.
On the status of the 31-year-old, Brazil manager Fernando Diniz announced: 'He asked to come off due to a blow to his ankle.'
It is unclear how serious the issue is, with Brazil playing a qualifier in Uruguay on Tuesday night, and Manchester United next in action on Saturday night at Sheffield United.
Hosts Brazil were one-nil up at the time of Casemiro's departure on Thursday, courtesy of Gabriel's 50th minute header, but Venezuela equalised in the 85th minute through Eduard Bello's overhead kick.
After the match, Casemiro said: 'Now we have to hold our heads up high and think about Uruguay. We wanted to go at them, they wanted to defend and we couldn't break them like we wanted.'
Manchester United have launched an investigation into why their first-team squad has suffered so many injuries, with 16 players injured or unavailable to Erik ten Hag, despite playing just eight Premier League games.
Officials from the club’s medical department are actively seeking to identify whether any patterns exist, and attempt to find a way to improve injury prevention in the future if they can.
However impact injuries - such as what appears to have afflicted Casemiro - cannot be predicted.
Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are all expected to be long-term absentees for Manchester United.
Raphael Varane, Sergio Reguilon, Tyrell Malacia, Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo are currently out of action receiving treatment, but there are higher hopes that they will return to the pitch quickly.
After the international break, Man United travel to Sheffield United before hosting Copenhagen in the Champions League and then Man City in the Premier League on October 29.
