Manchester United have been told sign the former Liverpool forward Luis Suarez by three former Red Devils players, sparking fury among fans.

In a discussion on official club television channel MUTV on Monday, United legends Lou Macari, David May and Paddy Crerand all said that they'd love to see the club move to sign Suarez.

While at Liverpool , the Uruguayan was banned for eight games and fined £40,000 after being found guilty of racially abusing United defender Patrice Evra in October 2011.

He was also roundly jeered by United supporters when he returned to Old Trafford with Barcelona in last season's Champions League quarter-finals.

Given his history with the club United fans were shocked to hear the recommendation, with Macari, May and Crerand are not mentioning the Evra incident at all and subsequenyly being slammed online.

Evra spoke about the Suarez incident in an interview with the Mail on Sunday last weekend.

"I don't know if Suarez is a racist," he said.

"I don't know his family. I don't know his background. But racism is so big for so many years and that day, there was racist abuse.

"So when we went to the hearing, they listened to me because I said I didn't want them to punish him and I don't know him close enough to say he is racist but he used that racist word.

"I don't hate him. I never hated him. I wanted to punch him at the time but for me to hate someone is impossible. I don't have hate in my heart."
