Manchester City are holding talks over the potential signing of Argentina's Under-20 midfielder Maximo Perrone.

The 19-year-old plays his club football for Velez Sarsfield who are based in the neighbourhood of Liniers on the edge of Buenos Aires.

He has been on the radar of Wolves, Benfica and Newcastle and is expected to leave after the South American U-20 championship.

Perrone made his professional debut back in March against Estudiantes before scoring his first goal for the club in a Copa Libertadores match against Uruguayan side Nacional.

He has made seven appearances at Under-17 level for Argentina, before making his first appearance for Javier Mascherano's U-20s' side in March during a 2-2 draw with the United States.

Perrone is in contention to be included in Argentina's squad for the South American U-20 championship which gets underway on January 19 and runs until February 12.

Should he make the move to the Etihad, he would follow Julian Alvarez who also moved from Argentina where he was playing for River Plate.

Alvarez has already made an impact at Man City and also played his part in helping the South American nation lift the World Cup.

Meanwhile, City goalkeeper James Trafford, 20, who has impressed on loan at Bolton Wanderers, is attracting interest from Rangers.
