Manchester United attach £15m price-tag to Phil Jones and refuse to listen to lower offers

Manchester United have attached a staggering £15million price tag to Phil Jones despite the fact he has featured just once for the Red Devils in the last two years.

The 29-year-old centre back made his first start in 708 days when Manchester United lost 1-0 to Wolves in their Premier League clash last week.

Despite the fact he provided a relatively solid performance on the day, Jones will not play a part in the club’s plans going forward. Therefore, he will look to depart the Manchester-based club in January.

As it stands, Jones has less than 18 months left on his contract at Old Trafford. Therefore, the club are looking to cash-in on the defender during the January window.

However, according to Sport Bible, United are refusing to listen to any offers below the £15m asking price they have set.

Several Premier League clubs have registered an interest in signing Jones - who cost Manchester United £16.5m almost a decade ago.

Burnley are said to be keeping tabs on the 29-year-old, although they have no intention of paying his £100,000-a-week salary.

Newcastle - who would be more than capable of meeting United's asking price - have also registered an interest in signing Jones.

Although, Eddie Howe is said to be more interested in securing the services of his primary targets before turning his attention to Jones.

Nevertheless, Jones would be open to move to either club as he is looking for more regular pitch-time next season.

Before featuring against Wolves, Jones last started a match in United's 6-1 win over Tranmere in the FA Cup in January 2020, having sustained a long-term knee injury.

Speaking after his return to action, Jones said: 'You know, I spent so long out, off the pitch and out of the squad. It's been horrible at times but it's nice to be back out with the lads.

'I feel like a footballer again and [to] feel the ball at your feet and the rain and the grass, it's just a great feeling.'

He also said: 'It's difficult when a player's out for so long, for whatever reason. 'All I would say is that any time I represent this club and put the shirt on, I give absolutely everything. I put my blood, sweat and tears into everything I do for this club.

'I appreciate all the support they [the fans] give me. I'm forever grateful for that. It's a wonderful, wonderful club to be at and I am grateful.'
