Jesse Lingard made one of his most costly mistakes in football on Saturday morning when he missed a penalty that saw Wimbledon fans miss out on £500 on Soccer AM.
As part of a challenge within the iconic football programme, Lingard had a chance to double the £250 pot that himself and chef Tom Kerridge had won by scoring a range of penalties, volleys and free-kicks.
But the Manchester United midfielder failed to score in the double or quits round to ensure the Wimbledon fans had no extra cash to spend in the pub before their FA Cup fourth round clash with West Ham on Saturday.
Lingard took part in the Soccer AM crossbar challenge earlier on and nonchalantly nailed it in his first attempt.
However, it was from 12-yards that he struggled as Lingard saw his spot kick denied by a sensational one-handed diving save from the goalkeeper.
Completely wiping off the £250 they had already won, Lingard delved into his own pocket to reimburse the Wimbledon fans in a classy gesture.
He kindly gave them £600 to take Kingsmeadow for the visit of Manuel Pellegrini's West Ham and posed for a photo with the fans as one of them held the cash aloft outside the studio.
During the show, Lingard hailed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for restoring the Manchester United way and giving the players freedom to enjoy their football again.
