Diego Maradona Sinagra, the son of Argentina legend Diego Armando Maradona, appeared on 'El Larguero' on Cadena Ser ahead of the Champions League game between Barcelona and Napoli.
Barcelona face Maradona senior's former club Napoli in the Champion's League on Tuesday night and comparisons between the Argentinians have been abundant as the fixture puts a spotlight on both players' careers.
"Messi comes close of course," said Diego Jr told El Larguero, when talking about the comparisons.
"I've always said Messi is a lot better than [Cristiano] Ronaldo.
"But you can't compare humans with aliens."
Maradona Jr. joked that "I would sign Messi for Napoli now. As in now! On Monday I would have had him with the Napoli squad."
For Maradona's son, "Messi is a phenomenon" and on the comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo, he stated: "Ronaldo is a great footballer, a really good footballer, but when they compare him with Messi, I leave the table."
He added that those that criticises Messi in his homeland "do not understand football" and defended his failure to win a World Cup with his country, as Maradona did.
"I always say the same thing," he added. "The only player that won a World Cup on his own was my old man, the rest were his helpers. And in recent years, the truth is that they didn't help (Messi)."
