Mohamed Salah vs Sergio Aguero: How do they compare in Golden Boot race?

  /  autty

Sergio Aguero moved level with Mohamed Salah on 17 Premier League goals in Manchester City's win against Chelsea.

Salah is the current holder of the Golden Boot and will be looking to retain it. He struck against Bournemouth on Saturday, while Aguero bagged a hat-trick in the game at the Etihad Stadium.

Sportsmail has taken a look at the two forwards and how they compare statistically, when they score, and how they each are off the pitch.

Goalscoring trend

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah did score on the opening day of the season and had three goals by the end of September, but struggled to really get going until mid-October, leading to doubts over his form. In December he really hit a run of form, scoring six Premier League goals. January saw three more.

Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero has been a consistent goalscorer throughout the season, although he did go through something a dry patch between the end of August and mid-September.

He has also been ruthless when he has scored, bagging three hat-tricks this campaign in the Premier League already.

Statistical comparison

Salah has played more football than Aguero in the Premier League this season, posting nearly 600 more minutes of action than his rival. In that time, he has taken three more shots but hit 11 more on target.

The Egyptian's conversion rate is 19.5 per cent compared to Aguero's 20.2 per cent, which is a minimal difference. They also have fairly comparable assists figures, Salah with seven compared to Aguero on six.

However, Salah posts a lower Expected Goals (xG) per 90 figure, at 0.63 to 0.77. Given the generally small figures involved in xG, that suggests Salah is doing better to put his chances away than Aguero, as the quality of them is slightly less.

Off the pitch

Salah

Salah's incredible popularity off the pitch, especially in Egypt, means he is the face for a number of advertising campaigns. He is involved in Pepsi's new behind the scenes-style marketing push, while he has also helped with Adidas and DHL in recent months.

Oh, and he shaved his beard this weekend, giving him a different look.

Aguero

Aguero is a notably quiet man off the pitch, as evidenced by his role in the Manchester City documentary. Still, he has been at the forefront of Puma's new push in the football sphere, helping them launch new ranges.

The striker also changed his look up this season, dying his hair a platinum blond in November.
