Speaking in an interview with DAZN (h/t Diario AS), Juventus striker Alvaro Morata has sensationally claimed that the Bianconeri would have beaten Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final in 2015 if VAR existed at the time.

The 2014/15 campaign was a memorable one for Barça as they completed a stunning treble under the tutelage of manager Luis Enrique.

Having wrapped up the La Liga title and the Copa del Rey, Barcelona faced Juventus in the finals of the Champions League in June, in Berlin.

The game was off to a bright start for the Catalans as Ivan Rakitic scored just four minutes into the game. Alvaro Morata equalised for Juve ten minutes into the second period but goals from Luis Suarez and Neymar ensured that the trophy came to Catalonia.

During the game, there had been one or two contentious refereeing calls and Morata has now claimed that if VAR had existed at the time, things would have gone in Juventus' favour on that fateful night in Germany.

"I always think that, with the VAR, they would have given us a penalty and we would have had one more Champions League at Juventus. Life is like that…” he said in his interview.

Morata had strongly been linked with a move to Barcelona during the January transfer window. However, a move did not materialise as the Blaugrana ended up signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang instead.

On loan at Juventus from Atletico Madrid, the Spanish striker's future remains in limbo. Addressing the situation, he said: “At Juve, every footballer plays for the future in every game. There is a long queue of people who would like to be here.

“It is normal for them to judge you, I give everything to win and I am very well here, my children want to listen Juve's anthem when we pass in front of the stadium. The rest you don't have to ask me…”

Moving back to the 2014/15 season, it was Barcelona's first under Luis Enrique and was largely dominated by the success of the fearsome trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar, who plundered 122 goals between them.
