An Aston Villa statement read: "Aston Villa can confirm that today’s Premier League fixture with Burnley has been postponed due to an increased amount of positive Covid-19 test results within our playing squad.

"The results of PCR tests, which were taken yesterday prior to training as well as Lateral Flow Tests, were received this morning and confirmed further depletion of our playing squad which was already impacted upon for our trip to Norwich in midweek.

Speaking about the situation on Friday, Villa boss Gerrard said: "We're in constant dialogue with the Premier League and we've let them know that we are in a delicate situation.

"I am probably speaking to the doctor at the moment more times than my wife, which isn't a good thing. It lets you know you are facing a bigger challenge than you would in a normal situation.

Steven Gerrard's Villa side were hit by more positive cases ahead of the game
