OFFICIAL: Dani Alves has been ruled out of the World Cup for Brazil with an anterior cruciate ligament injury that requires surgery, Brazilian Football Federation has confirmed.
The 35-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender injured the cruciate ligament in his right knee during his side's routine French Cup victory over Les Herbiers on Tuesday.
Alves limped off near the end of his side's 2-0 victory over the third-tier side and there were fears the full back might miss this summer's showpiece tournament, which kicks off on June 14.
The Selecao will meet in Brazil before facing Croatia and Austria in friendlies on June 3 and June 10.
