Diego Godín has announced that he will hang up his boots and put an end to his career as a professional footballer. Velez Sarsfield is the last stop of his career. The game against Huracán this Sunday will be his farewell game.
Although Uruguayan side Club Nacional de Football made a new offer for him, he decided to end his 20-year career.
Godin, who was born in February 1986, is 37 years old this year. He has played in Europe for many years and has a lengendary career. He joined Villarreal from the Club Nacional de Football in 2007, and then joined Atletico Madrid in 2010, and became the captain of the team in 2018. He scored 27 goals and assisted 15 goals in 389 appearances at Atletico. Godin joined Inter Milan in 2019, played 36 times with 2 goals and 1 assist, and then joined Cagliari.
Godin played 161 games for Uruguay national team and participated in 4 World Cups with the team.
In June last year, Godin terminated his contract with Brazilian team Atletico Mineiro and joined Argentine team Sarsfield.
