34-year-old veteran Thomas Müller has announced his retirement from the German national team, ending his 14-year international career.

Thomas Müller said in a video statement: "Fourteen years ago, when I made my debut for the national team, I couldn't have dreamed of experiencing all this. After 131 international matches and scoring 45 goals, today I will retire from the German national team. I have always been proud to represent my country and I want to thank everyone. Now I will support the team as a fan, not as a member of the national squad, and I hope for Germany's qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Goodbye!"

In October 2009, Müller was called up to the national team by then-coach Joachim Löw, and he made his debut in March 2010. Throughout his career with Germany, Müller played 131 matches, scoring 45 goals and providing 41 assists. He won the 2014 World Cup with the team. Müller's farewell match for the national team was the Euro 2024 quarter-final where Germany lost 1-2 to Spain.

Müller's contract with Bayern Munich expires in 2025, and he will continue to represent the club in the upcoming season.
