OFFICIAL: Iñaki Peña has been registered as a first-team player and will wear the number 13
Barcelona coach Xavi Hernández tried to clarify on Tuesday the situation regarding Iñaki Peña, who was named the squad for the Copa del Rey match at Intercity on Wednesday despite the fact that his participation is not entirely clear.
Players aged 23 or over with registration to the B team cannot play for the first team in the Copa del Rey.
"The situation with Iñaki Peña is that we have presented the documents on Jan. 2, the first valid day to make the change to his registration from the B team to the first team," Xavi said.
"Now we are waiting for the resolution from the RFEF, but it is not that the RFEF has warned us about this issue, but rather that we have done everything possible so that he can play the game."
The club is confident of having the go-ahead in the next few hours: in that case, Peña would have a first-team registration and therefore could play the match against Intercity without problems at the Rico Pérez in Alicante.
