Lyon have confirmed that first team manager Bruno Genesio will leave the club at the end of the season.

The 52-year-old confirmed at a news conference on Saturday that he will not renew his contract, which expires in June.

"For some time we are facing a negative atmosphere, which can be a drag on the players and the club," says Genesio. "I had a very long discussion this morning with the president to tell him not to continue next year."

Lyon were beaten 3-2 by Rennes at home in the Coupe de France semi-final on Tuesday, before suffering another defeat on Friday at the hands of Nantes.

Moreover, Nabil Fekir, Marcelo Antonio, Ferland Mendy and Memphis Depay were all reportedly involved in two seperate training ground bust-ups this week.

There had been reports in France that Jose Mourinho and Laurent Blanc have been targeted by the French side to take over as manager at the end of the current campaign.

Mourinho has spoken of his desire to coach a team in Ligue 1, while Blanc has been without a club since leaving Paris Saint-Germain in 2016.

However, Lyon released a statement on Monday insisting they have not made contact with any potential candidate.

"The entire club is focused on the end of the season with the single goal of putting Bruno Genesio and his players in the best condition to qualify for the Champions League," they said.
