Monaco have completed the signing of Gelson Martins from Atletico Madrid, with the Portuguese winger joining the French side on loan until the end of the season.
Gelson arrived at Atletico in the summer to much excitement, but he never lived up to the billing in his 12 matches and he will not even see out the season in Madrid.
Of those 12 matches, eight came in LaLiga Santander, two were in the Champions League and the other two came in the Copa del Rey.
His departure has freed up the wages to sign Alvaro Morata, while Gelson will be looking to help Monaco surge up the table as they are currently in the relegation zone in Ligue 1.
In fact, Monaco have reappointed Leonardo Jardim as their head coach after sacking Thierry Henry, with the Frenchman doing a very unimpressive job during his 20 games in charge.
"I am very happy to have arrived at Monaco," Gelson said to Monaco's media team.
"I look forward to working with my new teammates and giving my best to help the team."
Vadim Vasilyev, Monaco's vice-president, is pleased to have secured the signing of the 23-year-old.
"Welcome to Gelson Martins," he began.
"Gelson is a fast attacking midfielder who has shown great things in Sporting [CP]'s shirt and who will bring to the squad all his speed and his attacking abilities."
