Poland have announced that national team manager Czeslaw Michniewicz will leave his position on New Year's Eve when his contract expires.
Michniewicz took over from Paulo Sousa as Poland boss in January, and led his nation to Qatar as they saw off Sweden in the play-offs.
He then managed to get Poland out of their group for the first time since 1986 as they beat Saudi Arabia and drew with Mexico to take second place in Group C. The team's World Cup journey was brought to an end when they were beaten 3-1 by France in the last-16.
After his impressive achievements it may have been expected that Michniewicz would continue in his role, but the Poland Football Association have decided not to extend his deal after holding a meeting with the 52-year-old.
They released a statement on Thursday morning that read: 'Last week, Czesław Michniewicz had several meetings with the president of PZPN Cezary Kulesza, vice-presidents and the board of PZPN.
'During the meeting, the selector summed up the performance of the Polish national team at the World Cup in Qatar, and discussed the organisational aspects of the team's participation in the World Cup.
'After a thorough analysis of all the information, PZPN decided not to extend Czesław Michniewicz's contract, which expires at the end of the year.
'On behalf of the board of PZPN, we would like to thank Czesław Michniewicz for 11 months of work as a coach.'
Michniewicz will depart having taken charge of 13 matches, with Poland winning five of those, losing five and picking up three draws.
