PL clubs 'attempt to give Project Restart boost with new close-contact research'

Premier League clubs hope new research showing close-contact periods in training last just three seconds can allay player fears - as this falls below the threshold for catching coronavirus.

The Player Proximity white paper, carried out by GPS vest monitoring company StatSports, will be presented to concerned players as they return to training, according to The Independent.

StatSports supply 15 Premier League clubs with equipment and, using data from four teams and 75 players across 11 training sessions between February 25 and March 12, could establish how often the two-metre circle around a player was encroached.

the data demonstrates that there are around 350 incursions per sessions, with most lasting less than one second but some at set-piece drills taking much longer.

This news will boost the Premier League's plans to restart the season with a bumper weekend of televised matches in a template they will follow for the rest of the campaign, Sportsmail exclusively revealed on Wednesday.

A video conference with Premier League captains had seen them raise concerns over phase two of Project Restart - contact drills - but the study could allay those fears.

Sportsmail has learned that TV companies have been told to prepare for the season to resume with one live game on Friday June 12 or June 19, followed by four live matches at separate kick-off times on Saturday and Sunday, before the return of Monday Night Football the following day.

Fixtures for the rest of the campaign can now be shown at 3pm on a Saturday after UEFA dropped the traditional blackout.

Several players, including Tottenham full-back Danny Rose - on loan at Newcastle - have voiced their concerns over the risks associated with sport returning following its shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Rose said: 'It's a f***ing joke, I'm not going to lie.

'Government is saying bring football back because it's going to boost the nation's morale, I don't give a f**k about the nation's morale.

'People's lives are at risk. Football shouldn't even be spoke about coming back until the numbers have dropped massively. It's b******s.

'I didn't even listen to the announcement (on Sunday), no football until June 1 or something. I don't even pay attention to any of that. I'm sad people are getting sick and being affected, football should be the last of things that needs to get sorted.'
