PSG boss Pochettino admits UCL exit by Real Madrid 'p***** me off'

Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he is still outraged by the manner in which his Paris Saint-Germain side tumbled out of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

PSG were 2-0 up in the last-16 tie with just under half-an-hour to play at Real Madrid before a stunning Karim Benzema hat-trick inside 18 minutes turned the tie on its head.

The French side had been cruising following earlier goals by Kylian Mbappe but despite controlling large stages of both legs failed to hang on.

Pochettino admitted before his side's clash against Bordeaux on Sunday that the result still leaves a bitter taste having been in such a strong position.

'How do I feel? It p***** me off,' the Argentinian is reported to have said by GetFootballNewsFrance.

'It p***** me off because if you break it down, for the first leg and 60 minutes of the second leg, the team were superior. Maybe we deserved to lead by more goals and the way in which it was taken from us, it really p***** me off – excuse my language.'

'It leaves a really painful mark and it's hard to move on,' he continued. 'I'm angry, tired… It's hard to sleep at night but we have a responsibility to continue.'

PSG head into the game against Bordeaux with a comfortable 13-point gap over Nice at the top of Ligue 1, but Pochettino is now under huge pressure at the Parc des Princes, and could be sacked this summer.

Winning the Champions League was his primary objective, and an exit could be now on the cards after PSG chiefs were left fuming following the defeat.

The former Tottenham and Southampton manager had called for calm after the game, despite the shocking collapse of his side.

'The present is all I can deal with,' said the under-fire former Tottenham manager.

'As for the future, what will be will be. We play to compete and to win. It's a hard blow to take but we have to keep a calm head now.'

That 'que sera sera' response will not go down well with the club's president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who Spanish television reporter Monica Marchante reported was incandescent with rage after the defeat.

Pochettino had been linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, and the Red Devils do hope to have a new announcement in regards to new boss to take over from interim head coach Ralf Rangnick by April.
