PSG are weighing up a stunning deal for Dortmund star Erling Haaland this summer - reports claim - and the Norweigan star will be their plan B option if Kylian Mbappe leaves on a free transfer this summer.
Mbappe's contract expires at the end of the season and has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, with the Frenchman said to have agreed a deal with the LaLiga side to become their latest Galactico - though he has been coy on his future.
The Ligue 1 giants are making contingency plans as a result and have identified Dortmund striker Haaland as their next star name - a big dominating forward who could have a similar impact to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, L'Equipe reports.
And PSG have already made contact with Haaland's camp over a possible move, the report adds, saying the club's president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and sporting director Leonardo have spoken with the player's agent Mino Raiola.
Haaland has a release clause of just £63million - a modest fee for a player so highly coveted - and PSG will have serious competition if they wish to go ahead with their pursuit of the player, with Man City said to be leading the chase.
Madrid themselves are keen on Haaland - though sealing a free transfer for Mbappe could change the complexion of their business. However, reports from Spain last week claimed the club were seeking to pair him with the World Cup winner.
Carlo Ancelotti's men bid £170m for Mbappe on deadline day last summer after the player admitted he was keen to move to Spain.
Mbappe will play against Madrid in the Champions League this month and admitted that while he is yet to make a decision on his future, lining up against Los Blancos 'changes a lot of things'.
'If I have made a decision over my future? No,' Mbappe told Amazon Prime Video (via The Mirror).
'Playing against Real Madrid changes a lot of things. Although I have the freedom to do what I want in this moment, I am not going to speak with a rival or do that type of thing.
'I am concentrated on winning against Real Madrid. And then we will see what happens.'
PSG will be keen to upgrade their side with another superstar if Mbappe does depart and Haaland is just that - one of the top strikers in world football after yet another sensational campaign with Bundesliga outfit Dortmund.
This season he has more goals than games - netting 23 from 20 appearances in all competitions, including 16 in the domestic league.
Injury problems have stopped him scoring even more this season after muscular problems and a hip issue kept the Norwegian out for 11 games.
