A section of Manchester City supporters have called for manager Pep Guardiola to be sacked following their shocking exit from the Champions League on Saturday.
Guardiola's side lost 3-1 at the hands of French side Lyon, with former Celtic striker Moussa Dembele scoring twice late on and striker Raheem Sterling missing a glaring chance for City to level the game.
The loss means City have the League Cup triumph in February as their only trophy honour this season and the #PepOut hashtag was trending in the UK on Sunday morning.
One fan tweeted: 'I know Pep has given us some fond memories. But the truth is that he is spending so much and still hasn't solved our defense.
'He can't even defeat Lyon, forget Munich. Maybe it was good we lost or would have been embarrassed by them.'
Another said: 'Thanks for the memories Pep Guardiola but its time to go #pepout'.
Fans of other teams have jumped on the 'Guardiola Out' bandwagon, with some implying that the Spanish coach is not as good as fans make out.
One supporter claimed: 'The "Pep way" is f***** awful. Glad to see people finally seeing him for what he is: A BANG AVERAGE manager.
'Had a ready made team at Barca & threw hundreds of millions on players at Man City & for what? A Mickey Mouse cup at the end of it. Overrated as F***! #PepOut'
Another fan said: #pepout he inherited the golden years of Barca team. Walked in to Bayern Munich team that came off a treble title win.
'Moved to man city's team spent 1.3 billion and can't get past quarter final the man is a fraud put him at a team with no money see how he gets on fixing that.'
One fan was very critical of the coach's tactical decisions of late, saying: 'Pep Guardiola spent £134m this season on defensive recruits only to finish the season 18 points behind Liverpool in the Premier League, no major trophies besides the league cup and lost more games than Ole’s Man United in the League. That’s a sackable offence for sure!'
Guardiola, who is regarded as one of the greatest managers of all-time, arrived in England in 2016 and has won two Premier League titles, three League Cups and one FA Cup during his time at City.
In the first of his two top-flight title wins in 2017-18, City set a record points total of 100 as they dominated the Premier League title race that year.
City also recorded 98 points the following year to hold off a stubborn Liverpool side who finished one point behind.
But Guardiola has found matters more difficult this season, finishing 18 points behind Jurgen Klopp's side while they also exited the FA Cup to Arsenal, who are managed by the City boss' ex-understudy Mikel Arteta.
While City have had a poor season compared to their lofty standards, some football fans have criticised the City fans who are calling for their manager to go.
One supporter said: '29 trophies in 11 years as a manager. Broke 2 Premier League records in one season with your club (most points & consecutive wins) Lost his mother to Covid19 in April. ... and you want him out? Disgraceful. What an embarrassing mess your club is. #pepout'
Another fan claimed: 'City fans wanting Pep out is absolutely mental. Forget the trophies he's won, the players his improved, the football he plays. If you sack him you're back to being a club who's only draw for players is lots of money. Aka PSG #pepout'
Guardiola has a matter of weeks to dodge these critics before the new Premier League season starts again on September 12.
