Real Madrid given as many penalties in the Champions League as in La Liga

Having not been awarded a penalty in LaLiga Santander since October, Real Madrid converted from the spot against Atalanta on Tuesday.

Danny Makkelie pointed to the spot after Rafael Toloi had tripped Vinicius Junior, handing Los Blancos their second penalty of the season in Europe.

The first of those two spot-kicks came at the San Siro when, after Nacho was fouled, Eden Hazard converted in Sergio Ramos' absence.

The Real Madrid captain was there to take the penalty this time, beating Marco Sportiello with a drive into the corner.

Curiously, Zinedine Zidane's side have now been awarded as many penalties in the Champions League as in LaLiga Santander this season - two - despite playing 19 fewer games in the former.

Real Madrid haven't been given a penalty in LaLiga Santander since Ramos scored past Neto in the Clasico on Matchday 7. The only previous one before that was against Real Betis on Matchday 2.

Nobody has been awarded fewer penalties in LaLiga Santander than Real Madrid this term, while Cadiz, Huesca, Elche and Osasuna have all been given two as well.

On top of that, only Real Betis and Granada have conceded more penalties than Zidane's men. They are on seven, while Real Madrid and Osasuna sit on six each.
