Redknapp urges Tottenham to pay Eriksen what he wants

There's no doubting Christian Eriksen's quality, and he showed it once again in Tottenham's Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday.

With Spurs 1-0 down, Eriksen was subbed on the field and proceeded to turn the game around.

'Until Eriksen came on the field I didn't see Spurs winning that game,' said former Tottenham player Jamie Redknapp on Sky Sports after the match.

After Eriksen's inclusion, Tottenham were able to equalize through new signing Tanguy Ndombele, and that was followed up by two clinical finishes from Harry Kane to secure the win.

'The tempo changed, the pace of passing changed,' he continued. 'Every time a Spurs player got the ball, the first player they looked for was him.

'[The comeback] was more to do with him than anyone else... He showed his importance to that team today.'

'Players like that are few and far between. They’ve gotta keep him. If he wants a bit more money, that’s what great players deserve.'

Redknapp's fellow pundits joined in, as Nigel Reo-Coker and Rafael van der Vaart also waxed lyrical about the Danish midfielder.

'Before Eriksen came on there were no Tottenham players taking responsibility,' said Reo-Coker. 'So many times Harry Kane wasn't making runs because he didn't feel that player on the ball had quality.'

'We need to enjoy players like Eriksen and I hope he's going to stay because if he goes, Spurs have a big problem,' said van der Vaart, who played at Spurs for two years.

'When Eriksen plays it's like the game stands still,' Redknapp continued. 'They see the game different, they see the game in slow motion. He was so influential in that result today, it wouldn't have happened it it wasn't for him.'
