Manchester City Treble winner Rico Lewis has been omitted from England Under 21s’ European Championship squad.

Lewis enjoyed a breakout year at the Etihad Stadium, making 23 appearances under Pep Guardiola as City made history.

The 18-year-old impressed as he switched between right back and central midfield but has not done enough to earn a Euro call-up from England boss Lee Carsley.

Carsley goes to the tournament in Romania and Georgia with just one recognised striker, Cameron Archer, after Folarin Balogun switched allegiances to the United States.

Curtis Jones has been used as a false nine by the Under 21s, while Morgan Gibbs-White, Anthony Gordon, Emile Smith Rowe and Noni Madueke offer added firepower.

City winger Cole Palmer, who could depart the club this summer, has been included, while full back Djed Spence has not made it.

Harvey Elliott, Oliver Skipp, Jacob Ramsey and Angel Gomes make up part of a stellar midfield as England look to improve on two years ago, when they were dumped out of the group stage.
