Two more names have been touted as potential Mikel Arteta replacements at Arsenal recently.
Arsenal struggling
Arsenal’s 2021/22 Premier League campaign got off to an absolute nightmare start.
The Gunners would begin their season against newly-promoted Brentford, who had never played a game in the Premier League before.
The Bees, though, were able to take advantage of some poor Arsenal defending, especially from Ben White and Pablo Mari, to earn a 2-0 win.
The Gunners followed this up by losing 2-0 to Chelsea in the league, though that game could easily have ended with Thomas Tuchel’s men netting four or five.
And this is exactly what Manchester City managed in Arsenal’s last outing before the international break, putting five past the North Londoners, who are now officially enduring their worst start to a top-flight campaign since 1954/55.
Such a poor start to the campaign has already seen Mikel Arteta’s future at the Emirates called into question, with reports at the back end of August having suggested that the capital outfit are likely to make Antonio Conte their first-choice target to replace the Spaniard.
Then, on Saturday, both Brighton boss Graham Potter and Brentford boss Thomas Frank were, according to TEAMtalk, emerging as potential head coaching candidates for Arsenal if, and when, they decide to move on from Arteta.
Rodgers and Nice boss eyed
Granted, Arsenal and Arteta have now picked up their first league win of the season.
But even that tie at home vs a newly promoted Norwich was not exactly the most convincing of wins for the Gunners.
So, whilst Arteta had likely eased the pressure on him somewhat for now, you would assume that his job is still not entirely safe at present.
And, as mentioned above, yet more managers are being touted as replacements for the Spaniard in north London.
Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast [as cited by football.london] this week, Ian McGarry claimed that Arsenal are looking at Nice boss Christophe Galtier and Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers as possible options to replace Arteta if the club do decide to sack him in the coming weeks.
