To mark what would have been his 29th birthday, Emiliano Sala's sister posted a heartbreaking message to reveal the pain herself and her family are still going through.
Sala tragically lost his life after a plane transporting him to Cardiff from France crashed into the English Channel in January.
After a long period of searching, the body of the Argentine footballer was eventually discovered and laid to rest, and now his sister Romina has paid tribute on what should have been a special day for the family.
Taking to Instagram on Friday, Sala's 29th birthday, she wrote: 'There are no words that can describe the pain. Happy birthday brother! Where ever you are, give us the strength to go on.
'I wish everything were different… I promise you we will not stop until the end.
'Kisses to heaven.'
An accompanying image showed Sala in happier times, beaming at the camera, before a follow-up post saw Romina thank fans for creating a large Sala mural on the wall of the stadium of his former club, San Martin de Progreso.
The club have confirmed they will rename the stadium after the former striker, with large signs reading 'Estadio Emiliano Sala' now visible at the ground.
Club president Daniel Ribero said: 'The idea came after the body surfaced and the wake that was held in the club.
'The directive committee decided to name the main pitch where we play in the Esperancina League, Emiliano Sala.'
During the tragic crash with claimed the life of Sala, pilot Dave Ibbotson also died in the incident though his body was never recovered.
