Sergio Aguero was forced off the pitch in a legends' match in Argentina after his shoulder popped out following challenge.

The former Manchester City and Argentina striker returned to the pitch on Sunday in a match marking the 120th anniversary of Independiente.

Aguero was among the club legends to feature in the match, with the 35-year-old having played 56 times for his first professional club.

The forward was only able to play 11 minutes of the match after suffering a shoulder injury.

Aguero drove towards the box before going down following a challenge from Juan Eduardo Eluchans, with his shoulder hitting the turf as he feel.

The 35-year-old could be seen clutching his shoulder immediately after the incident, before walking off to be replaced.

'I think my shoulder came out,' Aguero told a touchline reporter, with the forward smiling despite suffering the injury.

Aguero's appearance in the match came despite the forward being forced to retire from professional football in 2021 due to a heart condition.

He had been forced to come off at half-time of a match against Alaves due to chest discomfort, and was subsequently diagnosed with heart arrhythmia.

Aguero tearfully confirmed his retirement at a press conference in December 2021, just 165 minutes into his Barcelona career having moved from Man City that summer.

The forward recently played down reports he was set to return to the game and train with Independiente, having recently said he would have to 'consult with his cardiologist' if the club's manager Carlos Tevez approached him.

Speaking ahead of the legends' match Aguero revealed he is set to undergo further tests, but stressed his health was the priority.

'Two days ago I did another study and everything went very well,' Aguero said, as per TNT Sports.

'Now I'm going to Madrid because I have a tournament, and then to Mexico and the United States for other tournaments. And now I'll see how I am.

'One never knows but the excitement and the desire is always to return.

'I don't want to excite people in that sense. The first thing I want is to be well.

'The desire is always there, I understand that they are excited and I am too, but I don't want to excite people.'

Aguero had made his debut for Independiente at the age of 15 and scored 23 goals in 54 matches before he was sold for a club record fee to Atletico Madrid.

He won the Europa League with the Spanish side in 2010, before moving to Manchester City.

Aguero scored a record-breaking 260 goals at Manchester City and a statue of him at the Etihad Stadium was unveiled in his honour.

The forward was a key part of five Premier League title winning teams, with his injury time winner famously delivering the club's first in 2012.
