The Swiss FA have given their full backing to national team captain Granit Xhaka after his furious outburst towards Arsenal fans on Sunday.
Xhaka reacted angrily after some fans cheered his substitution during Sunday's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace. He responded by cupping his ear to the crowd and appeared to tell supporters to 'f*** off' before leaving the field.
That has led to speculation that he may be stripped of the captaincy but the Swiss FA revealed on Tuesday that they have been 'in contact with Granit' and insist 'his standing will not change' as captain of his country.
A statement read: 'We are in contract with Granit. We appreciate the qualities and the importance he possess for the national team. As a result, his standing will not change.'
