The domestic seasons across Europe's top leagues are heading into their final weeks, but 2022 is still only a few months old.
There's plenty of time, then, for some of the continent's top strikers to push their way to the top of the top scorers list for the calendar year.
Already, though, some familiar faces are leading the way. We've taken a look at the top 10 at the top goalscorers in Europe's five major leagues – the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Premier League – so far this calendar year. Note: we've included 12 names to include all three players in joint 10th.
10= Tammy Abraham
Abraham might have been a little worried about his future at the top level when he was discarded by Chelsea in the summer.
But he needn't have worried. A year at Roma under the shrewd guidance of Jose Mourinho has helped him hit top form, with an impressive nine goals so far this year.
That has taken his tally for the season to 15 in Serie A, a more than decent return for a player new to the country and the division.
But Mourinho, as ever, is demanding more. “When you say Abraham is fantastic, I disagree, he can do even more,” the Roma boss said last month.
“I demand a lot of him because I know his potential, I'm not talking about goals but he must play every game with this attitude.”
10= Son Heung-min
Harry Kane is no longer the main man, the sole focal point, of Tottenham's attack.
Instead, it's been Son firing in the goals since the turn of the year. He's got nine in the Premier League in 2022, and only Mo Salah (22) has more than the South Korean's total of 17 in the race for the Golden Boot in England's top flight.
Antonio Conte, it seems, is really getting the best out of Son.
10= Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
Punctuality problems and a general lack of interest meant Aubameyang was first stripped of his captaincy by Arsenal and soon after shipped off to Barcelona.
In a sense, the prolific striker has fallen on his feet. He joined the Blaugrana just as they begin a renaissance under Xavi, contributing with nine La Liga goals since January. Not too shabby.
6= Enes Unal
A slightly less familiar name, Unal is ripping it up for Getafe in Spain.
Inevitably, his form since the New Year has lead to speculation of interest from clubs like Liverpool, but for now the 24-year-old is strutting his stuff on the Iberian Peninsula.
The Turkey international has 10 league goals this year, taking his tally for the season to 15, bettered only by the inimitable Karim Benzema.
Unal was at Manchester City as a teenager but never broke into the first team. Perhaps Pep Guardiola could do with a striker of his ilk now?
6= Wissam Ben Yedder
The first Ligue 1 representative on the list, Ben Yedder is enjoying his time on the French Riviera with Monaco.
His 10 goals in 2022 puts him right up there with some of the division's best, though he's not quite at the level of a certain Paris Saint-Germain striker.
6= Christopher Nkunku
Nkunku has been a revelation for RB Leipzig since joining from PSG in 2019.
Given he is not strictly a forward and operates more as a No.10, the Frenchman's goal scoring exploits are hugely impressive.
He has registered 10 Bundesliga goals this year and now has 17 for the campaign.
It's no surprise, then, that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with Nkunku.
6= Karim Benzema
The best player in the world right now.
4= Martin Terrier
Terrier is unlikely to have been a name many picked out at the start of the season as a contender to finish amongst Europe's top scorers.
But the left-sided forward has excelled in Rennes' fluid front three so far this season, netting 12 goals in 2022 and 21 in total, second only to Kylian Mbappe in Ligue 1.
Martin Terrier? More like Martin Terrierising defenders across France, am I right?
4= Moussa Dembele
Another free-scoring Frenchman (there must be something in the water over there), Dembele has so far equalled Terrier's total of 12 league goals in the calendar year.
It's been a dramatic upturn in form for the ex-Celtic striker, too, whose Ligue 1 tally now stands at 16. He's still some way off Ben Yedder and Terrier, though.
2= Ciro Immobile
Immobile scores goals. That's what he does. And there's no sign of him stopping.
The lethal Italian has 13 since January, adding to the 13 he netted before the New Year, and putting him top of the Serie A goalscoring charts with 26.
What makes his consistency in front of goal all the more impressive is that Lazio's form has been relatively indifferent. They currently sit seventh in the table, ten points off the last Champions League place.
There is no denying that Immobile should now be mentioned amongst Europe's best goal scorers. He's hit at least 25 goals in three seasons since joining Lazio in 2016-17; the only other players to manage that are Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski.
2= Kylian Mbappe
Mbappe could be at the top of lists like this for years and years to come.
He's surpassed Messi and Neymar as PSG's top scorer this season, with 13 goals in 2022 taking his Ligue 1 total to 22.
And by now, the 23-year-old is very much PSG's MVP. That his future is still up in the air will be a big concern for the club's higher-ups.
1. Robert Lewandowski
Who else? Lewandowski has been the continent's most devastatingly prolific striker for some time now, banging in goals at a terrifying rate for Bayern Munich.
He's added 14 more this year, leaving everyone else in the Bundesliga in his wake.
Lewa now has 33 in the Bundesliga, from 31 games, a rate of 1.11 per 90 minutes. That's off the back of 41 goals last season, and 34 the season before that.
It's scary stuff, but Bayern may not be blessed by his presence for much longer if the rumour mill is to be believed. Barcelona are interested, and La Liga defenders are already having sleepless nights at the mere thought of it.
“Of course (we want to keep him at the club). Lewandowski is highly appreciated,” said Bayern's sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.
“But he's our top earner at the club. We also have to look at our financial possibilities and how much money we have.
“We have all the time in the world. We have the best striker in the world and we're proud of that.”
Well on track to retain his European Golden Shoe.
