Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad have been linked with a move for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and if a transfer materialises then Arsenal could be heavily impacted
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been linked with a shock move to the Saudi Pro League. The 31-year-old is a target for Al Ittihad although the Reds' stance is the Egyptian is not for sale.
"Mo Salah is a Liverpool player," the German said, as reported by Liverpool Echo. "There's nothing there. If there was something the answer would be no [he's not for sale].
"I think about a problem when I have it but there is absolutely nothing at the moment. If there's something coming I don't know, then I'd have to think about it. But if something comes, it would be no. Mo is 100 per cent committed to Liverpool Football Club."
Despite Klopp's comments, it remains to be seen what Salah would do should an official bid arrive. Premier League sides will undoubtedly be watching the situation closely and any transfer could have ripple effects on Arsenal as well...
Salah is one of the best players in the Premier League. In terms of right wingers, he is possibly the best. Of course, Arsenal have their own world class right winger in the form of Bukayo Saka.
Now, if Salah were to leave this summer, Saka would arguably be the best right winger in the division. Last season the 21-year-old was in the mix, but had competition from Salah and Manchester City's Riyad Mahrez, to name a couple. But with Salah potentially gone and Mahrez already in Saudi Arabia, the door would be open for Saka to claim the crown of best right winger in England.
Some sections of the Gunners fanbase will be hoping Salah leaves this summer due to the Egyptian's record against the north Londoners. Facing Arsenal 15 times in his career, the former Roma and Chelsea man has scored nine goals and assisted a further four.
Most recently, Salah netted in the 2-2 draw between Liverpool and Arsenal at Anfield in April last season. He did miss a penalty, however, in the same game. With Roberto Firmino already departed, if Salah does leave Liverpool would have lost two players who seemingly love playing against Arsenal, which will be music to the ears of Mikel Arteta.
Arteta was also asked about the Saudi Pro League transfer window closing on September 20. Asked if this was fair when the English transfer window shuts on September 1, Arteta said: "No, because it is a competitor now. No, I think we have to change that."
It's clear managers like Arteta and Klopp are somewhat worried about losing players to the riches of Saudi Arabia. If Salah is tempted, he will certainly not be the last.
