Tottenham transfer news: Edmond Tapsoba is one of Spurs' top centre-back targets for the summer but pulling off a deal could have just gotten more difficult
Bayer Leverkusen managing director Simon Rolfes has revealed the German club are not even thinking about letting Tottenham target Edmond Tapsoba leave this summer. The 24-year-old defender is one of Spurs' main centre-back targets, with Micky van de Ven, Tosin Adarabioyo and Marc Guehi discussed as other options.
"I’ve been around long enough to know how it works. I wish it could be like my wife and Amazon where we get a delivery every day, but no frustration” Given his profile and experience, Tapsoba is seen as the perfect signing Tottenham could make with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano offering an update on the 24-year-old's potential move to Spurs by stating that negotiations are still taking place but that it will be a far from easy deal to get over the line.
Following those claims, Postecoglou's hopes of signing the Burkina Faso international have taken a further dent following Rolfes' bold comments on the immediate future of Tapsoba. As quoted by German outlet Kicker, he said: "With the quality he showed in spring and he's gotten better with every game - I'd be surprised if there wasn't any interest."
When asked if it was conceivable to him that Tapsoba could leave, he added: "No, not under normal circumstances. It's clear that there will always be limits at some point. But Edmond is a very important player. He's one of the top players in our team, without a doubt. He still has a long contract, so there's no reason for us to think about letting him go."
As Rolfes points out, Tapsoba has a contract at Leverkusen until 2026 which makes a transfer that much harder to pull off. However, it is noted in the report that an offer above €50million (£43.3million) would result in the club at least considering a sale, offering Spurs a glimmer of hope.
