Tottenham mocked by their supporters for 'embarrassing' Carabao Cup final merch

Tottenham have been ridiculed on social media by some of their own fans for a range of items released on their club shop to celebrate reaching the Carabao Cup final.

The showpiece event is scheduled for April 25 against Manchester City and, after beating Brentford in the semi-final, it is an opportunity for Tottenham to land their first piece of silverware since winning the competition back in 2008.

But fans have mocked the club for making quite so much of an occasion out of reaching a cup final. Tottenham pens, lanyards, mugs, keyrings and fridge magnets are all available to buy on the club shop, branded 'Carabao Cup finalists'.

'I'm a Spurs fan and I think this is embarrassing, especially for the Carabao Cup,' wrote one Tottenham supporter on Twitter.

Another said: 'Now matter how bad it gets, be thankful you aren't a Spurs fan.'

One Tottenham follower didn't believe it was real at first and had to check to see for themselves.

'I thought this was fake but it is actually up there,' they wrote on Twitter.

The Carabao Cup represents Jose Mourinho and Tottenham's best chance for silverware as it stands. They were dumped out of the FA Cup on Wednesday night after losing a 5-4 thriller to Everton at Goodison Park.

They are still in the Europa League, however, and face German side Wolsburg in the last-32. The first leg of that knockout fixture is held on February 18.

Spurs are eighth in the Premier League standings at present, four points behind Liverpool who at present occupy the fourth and final Champions League place. Mourinho's men have played a game less than the reds.

They return to league action on Saturday evening, away to their fellow Carabao Cup finalists and the Premier League leaders City.
