UEFA has officially announced on Thursday that it is opening an investigation against FC Barcelona over the Negreira case. In a statement, the body led by Ceferin explained that an investigation into a possible "violation of the legal framework" will be carried out.
The statement said: "In accordance with Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors have today been appointed to conduct an investigation regarding a potential violation of UEFA’s legal framework by FC Barcelona in connection with the so-called ‘Caso Negreira.’
"Further information regarding this matter will be made available in due course."
Day by day more, more details about the 'Negreira Case' are becoming known. The highest European football body, which had already warned that it could intervene, wants to compile everything that has happened in this ongoing investigation.
As they have stated, this is a process that will take time and once more is known, they will report on it.
Barcelona, for their part, in order to defend the club's honour, have already filed five lawsuits against different journalists and media outlets that have tried to damage the image of the club with their reports on the payments to the former vice-president of the CTA.
Barça president Laporta, in turn, stated days ago that, "This campaign aims, in the short term, to destabilise the team, and in the medium term, to control Barça, to keep it. There will be time, and I look forward to explaining to you who, why and how they are orchestrating this campaign."
