Vicente Guaita 'opts for move to Real Sociedad' after starring for Crystal Palace this term

Vicente Guaita is close to agreeing a return to Spain with Real Sociedad.

The Crystal Palace goalkeeper, who joined the club from Getafe in July 2018, has earned rave reviews for his performances this season, with his standout display coming in the 1-1 draw against Tottenham last month when he made a number of astonishing stops.

However, the 34-year-old has opted to leave England and reject two offers from other clubs to join the high-flying LaLiga outfit, who currently sit sixth.

Whether the move will take place in this window or in the summer is not yet known, according to Mundo Deportivo, but a deal has been agreed in principle for Guaita to play at Anoeta until 2023.

Guaita's contract at the Eagles runs out at the end of June, but Sociedad are still hoping to purchase the former Valencia star on the cheap in the coming days.

Sociedad's current number two stopper Miguel Angel Moya is sidelined and manager Imanol Alguacil wants someone with a notable pedigree to come in and challenge first-choice goalkeeper Alex Remiro.

Guaita is starting for Palace in their Premier League home game against Wolves, in what could well be his last match for the Londoners. The number two keeper is Wayne Hennessey.

Real Sociedad are away to fifth-placed Villarreal tonight before facing Cadiz next Saturday in a game which could see Guaita appear on the bench if the transfer is completed in time.
